Art has been playing drums for more than 25 years and has been teaching for 20 years. Currently Art is a contributing writer for Drumhead Magazine, issues 5 to present, writing the lessons for the department Drum U & contributing regularly to the department Practice With the Pros in print, on CD & video lessons for Drumhead Magazines digital addition. As a performer and session artist, Art’s versatility behind the kit has afforded him the opportunity to perform & record within the genres of rock, funk, blues, pop, metal, folk, jazz, latin and country with both regional & national acts, and for musical theater. Art has well over 40 CD's to his credit, including recent collaborations with guitarist Chuck D'Aloia, “Circle 7” “Gears", “Under the Hood”, “Christmastime is Gears” & Brown Note presents music by Art Bernstein & Chuck D’Aloia.
From his private teaching studio in upstate New York, Art has been inspired by his students of all ages, whose achievements have ranged from coveted positions with competitive school district, all-state and college ensembles to international tours with bands of their own.
During its 2005-2006 season, The Empire State Youth Orchestra's Youth Percussion Ensemble featured Art's composition "Luna's Lunch, a 2 Drumset Solo," performed by two of his students. Art has written books on drumset and snare including the forthcoming book Kangarudiments that will be published as a digital book with Wizdom Media and Hudson Music and will be available in the Hudson Music digital bookstore. Release date coming soon!

One student auditioned and was awarded the Drum Set chair for the Massachusetts MMEA's Western District Jazz Ensemble & Performed with the Ensemble 2008 & has just been nominated for the ALL Eastern Jazz ensemble USA 2008/2009.
After performing with The All District Jazz Ensemble he was given the opportunity to audition for the Massachusetts MMEA's All State Jazz Band Where there is 1 Chair for the entire state of Massachusetts! After Auditioning he was awarded the Drum Set Chair for the Massachusetts MMEA All State Jazz Ensemble performing with the Jazz Ensemble at Symphony Hall in Boston Massachusetts on 03/29/08.
One student auditioned and was awarded the Drum Set chair for the Massachusetts MMEA's Western District Jazz Ensemble & Performed with the Ensemble On 01/14/06!
After performing with The All District Jazz Ensemble he was given the opportunity to audition for the Massachusetts MMEA's All State Jazz Band Where there is 1 Chair for the entire state of Massachusetts! 1 student scored 100% on his All-State Level 6 NYSSMA solo and is 1st alternate for the All State Drumset chair for New York State 2007. Also selected to perform with the Area All-State Band , NYS Zone 10 for both 2006 & 2007.
Art’s composition “Luna’s Lunch a 2 Drumset Solo” performed by two of Art’s current students was performed at select 2005-2006 performances of the Empire State Youth Orchestra’s Youth Percussion Ensemble.
Other student performances in 2005-2006 include Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall in Boston and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC.
Additionally many students are performing for their College, High School or Middle School Ensembles! Including Concert Bands, Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Marching Bands, Jazz Ensembles, Percussion Ensembles & also many students performing with their All County Bands & Jazz Ensembles!
